Discover Volterra from the Acropolis to the Etruscan Museum with its rich collection of cinerary urns and the modern “Shadow of the Evening”, the Roman theater, the ravishing medieval Piazza dei Priori and Alabaster, a unique handicraft in the world. Then, the taste of a generous land rich in oil, wine, cheese, truffles, salt, and Cinta Senese products.

DAY 1 – FRIDAY

Arrival in Volterra and free time

at “Beppino’s” typical restaurant in the city centre – traditional menu with locavore wild Cinta Senese raised in the family farm

guided tour of the Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance city that dominates the Cecina Valley: Piazza dei Priori, the beating heart of the town, with Palazzo dei Priori, the first city hall in Tuscany, and the beautiful installation “Arnioni in Piazza” designed by Luisa Bocchietto and made by the town’s craftsmen, a simple but amazing work which valorizes the alabaster of Volterra. The tour continues with Piazza San Giovanni, the Cathedral and the Roman Theater, that dates of the Augustan age and will be joined by another impressive monument of the same period, the Roman amphitheater, whose excavations are giving interesting surprises to archaeologists and commun people. At the end of the tour you will visit the Etruscan Museum with the rich collection of cinerary urns and the Shadow of the Evening , the votive bronze statue that inspired the Swiss artist Giacometti
At the end of the tour visit to an alabaster workswhop the emotion of discovering how alabaster objects are born.

Transfer to Lischeto Farm in the magical scenery of the rolling hills all around and in the background the Balze, the famous cliffs which engulfed the ancient Etruscan necropolis of Volterra
Approaching the farm, you will be impressed by two works of contemporary art perfectly integrated into the surrounding landscape: the Portal by Mauro Staccioli and Equanimity by Emilie Cumming-Enneking. Lischeto is a member of the Pecorino delle Balze Volterrane PDO Consortium and has always produced one of the best cheeses in the area.

DAY 2 – SATURDAY

Rich breakfast at Lischeto and short visit to the dairy, don’t miss a passagge to the
 shop where all the products from the farm are available
Departure for Volterra, free time or visit to the Art gallery to see, among other masterpieces, the amazing Descent from the Cross by Rosso Fiorentino

Transfer to Marcampo following a scenic road with views on the Balze cliffs: are you ready for a multisensory experience? wine tasting with Claudia, the owner’s daughter, and light lunch
Afternoon
The final step of this second day is a very special product, the truffle and especially the king of all truffles, the white one.You will attend a truffle hunt in the forests near Volterra, looking for the precious tuber praised in Volterra by an event “Volterragusto” that takes place between late October and early November. Your guide will be Alessio, the owner of the Mulinaccio farmhouse a true enthusiast who has chosen to dedicate his life to truffles, wine, saffron, evo oil and… to his guests

Tasty breakfast at Mulinaccio and departure for the nearby Frantoio dei Colli Toscani.
After typical cured meats, cheeses, wine and truffles, you can’t miss a tasting of extra virgin olive oil guided by Annamaria and her son Jonny, local entrepreneurs who run their business with passion and enthusiasm.

After lunch departure for Saline di Volterra along a spectacular tuscan road immersed in a landscape where colors change in symbiosis with the hours of the day and the seasons. The days have flown by, but something is still missing…The salt of Volterra
Not just an ordinary salt, but “the purest salt in Italy” extracted from underground deposits. After a video, you will enter the beautiful Nervi hall, designed in the 1960s by architect Pier Luigi Nervi where you will be seduced by the cascade of salt.
Before leaving, stop at the salt shop where you can buy salt in several sizes.
