The
Amongst the most interesting villas of the area
It was built between 1608 and 1615 by the order of Admiral Iacopo Inghirami on the remains of an older castle, the Ulignano Castle. This castle was a part of the municipality of Volterra, and its role was to protect the borders of the city of San Gimignano.
The project of the villa was probably assigned to architect Gherardo Salvini, who also worked on the “palazzo” of the
Inghirami family in Volterra. He designed a big building following the style of the Florence villas of the time.
A big park was built around the villa, separating it from the farm where all the buildings for the production activities were. A church was built right next to the villa at the beginning of the 14th century, which was modified many times.
