MONTERUFOLI VILLA

The hundred-rooms Villa

Decorated with beautiful paintings

The Monterufoli Villa is a big manor house not far away from Libbiano. It’s located on what used to be a medieval castle, now completely gone.
The castle was bought by the Maffei family of Volterra in the 17th century, who started building the villa that hosted so many famous people, such as the painter Salvador Rosa.
The villa was renamed by the people living in the area with the name “the Hundred-Rooms Villa” because of the size of the structure. The various rooms are decorated with paintings of different genres, ranging from floral decorations to more complex decorations.
