A jump back into the Middle Ages
The “casa-torre” Buomparenti is a habitable tower that hosted noble families for centuries,
right in the center of Volterra
The whole facility is a charming example of medieval civil architecture, allowing visitors to travel back in time to when merchant families used to build these majestic towers as symbols of wealth and power.
The tower is located not far away from Piazza dei Priori, between via Buomparenti and via Ricciarelli, and it’s one of the most characteristic corners of Volterra. It is linked to the Angelario fortress with a very high brick arch, and it is where the urban expansion in the age of communes started, right on the Borgo Santa Maria intersection.
