PALAZZO MINUCCI SOLAINI

Palazzo Minucci Solaini

Currently home to two museums

Palazzo Minucci Solaini is definitely the best-preserved Renaissance building in Volterra. It has a square floor plan and rooms built around a cloister, a porch on the ground floor used as a source of light and a place to welcome people or, when needed, to work.

There’s a tank in the cloister which is supplied by rainwater and that is accessible from the upper floors as well. Many of the rooms used to be decorated with frescos, and the wooden floor slabs were filled with paintings and carvings.

The “palazzo” is home to the “Pinacoteca” (an art gallery) and Civic Museum and the Ecomuseum of Alabaster.
