The “borgo” of Miemo
and its strategic location
Miemo includes a medieval “borgo” with a church dedicated to Sant’Andrea, a farm, a beautiful villa and a few houses.
Miemo was always strategically very important, because of its location in between the valleys of the Cecina and the Era rivers. That’s why it’s been the subject of many disputes between Pisa, Volterra and Florence.
An important noble family is originally from Miemo, and its castle is often cited in medieval documents.
It started getting mentioned less and less in the 15th century due to a slow period of decline, which ended up transforming it into a big farm in the 18th century.
