The Abbey of St Peter in Palazzuolo
has a very ancient history
The monastery, where today, walking around you can admire the ruins, is certainly one of the oldest in all of Tuscany. Founded in the mid-1700s, it housed the first monks who, in a so far land at that time, sought solitude and spirituality, the same that the places still infuse today.
Amongst the buildings of cultural and environmental interest the Abbey of San Pietro in Palazzuolo without doubt stands out.
The still visible imposing ruins represent what remains from the original nucleus founded by the descendants of Walfred.
The original site where the abbey – dedicated to St Peter – was founded is not the same as today’s location on the Poggi della Badia, where the abbey was moved to at the end of the 12th century.
