“Hidden corners of Sasso Pisano”

For families, small groups and individuals.

A unusual hike to discover the hidden corners of Sasso Pisano.

Urban trekking to the discovery of Sasso Pisano, a characteristic medieval hamlet lying on the top of a cliff in the heart of the geothermal area. In the Middle Ages the village became object of dispute between the bishops and the Comune of Volterra for the control on the important minerals found in the area: alum, sulfur, vitriol. The place eventually passed under the Florentine dominion after the Alum War when Florence conquered Volterra and its district. The village can be considered a starting point for interesting excursions to some geothermal phenomena, like fumaroles, hot springs and steam jets, that introduce visitors to the Devil’s Valley, a surprising territory that actually looks like a hellish landscape: an unusual vista, a scenery different than the typical Tuscan countryside.
